Is it better to speak little and well or a lot and not at all?
In Lean Thinking, poor communication represents a waste of resources and an unacceptable lengthening of time, which often hides poor thought discipline. For Japanese Sensei “thinking and communicating A3”, it means making an effort to translate complex problems or situations into its essential elements, which can be represented on a sheet of paper with a maximum size of an A3, approximately 30×40 cm. Thanks to A3 management, a simple yet effective tool, the company’s reliance on reporting and the increased complexity of problem-solving (or non-solution) processes are stemmed.
In any context one operates, A3 plays a key role in the communication and learning processes within a project, synthesizes data and thoughts in a direct, fast and focused way, accompanies in a standardized way the understanding and resolution of problems, becoming a true discipline of thought, which helps to be more effective and drastically reduce the use of reporting or laborious – often redundant – presentations. However, learning to think, process and communicate with A3 requires training and experience that is very often underestimated in most companies. According to some Japanese Sensei, it can take years to master and, above all, teach the art of A3 Management. This course aims to initiate and accelerate mastery of this important conceptual tool.
